The first Bop Stop was located at East 40th and St Clair Ave, a small corner tavern. It was born out of frustration with the Jazz scene in Cleveland at the time, that was July 4, 1991. With a stable of fine players in the Cleveland area, there was more than enough talent to cycle through the club, and keep it interesting. In October 1995 we moved to West 6th Street in the Warehouse District. Soon after moving in, we wanted out, so after 4 years we bought the property that we now call our permanent home in the Historic Ohio City area of the near west side.
In designing this beautiful performance space ,we called on Doug Wahl, Visio Architects, and he came through for us, with a striking exterior design, and a very functional interior design - a semi-circle seating arrangement around the Stage, with three tiered seating. Floor, second level, and bar seating allow all to see and hear clearly - not a bad seat in the place. The first time you visit us you will be pleasantly surprised at how thoughtful the design is, and to top it all off we have a wonderful view of Lake Erie, with a glass wall to view the fantastic sunsets. The state of the art sound and light system produces what just may be the finest listening room between New York and Chicago. We look forward to you visiting us, and becoming regular patrons of the new Cleveland Bop Stop.
