Nominated for: BEST Golf Course BEST Venue
In 1908, a group of businessmen calling themselves "The Westwood Club" grew dissatisfied with the uninteresting golf course they had been playing. They longed for a more challenging course and also recognized the need for a true country club on Cleveland's west side where they could "put on our comfortable togs and play a round of golf, or, when we like, put on our best clothes and have a real party". This group of founding fathers included John Zangerle, Mortimer J. Weber, John Crider, John Hinz, Robert Reid, and John Kerlin. Over the years, Westwood has weathered the great depression, several fires, and many renovations. What began as a dream among a handful of golfers over 80 years ago is today, perhaps, the finest country club in northeast Ohio. Tennis courts, a golf shop, locker rooms, restaurant and beverage are other facilities.
